Book Event: “Trump and the media” edited by Pablo J. Boczkowski y Zizi Papacharissi

What role did media and social networks play in the election of Donald Trump? In Trump and the media, experts in journalism and technology analyze, among other issues, the disconnection between many voters and the mainstream news media, the appearance of fake news and “alternative facts” and President Trump’s use of social networks. The book finds historical antecedents of the current events in the notions of “we” against “they” of the Cold War, traces the genealogy of the attack to the facts and traces the collapse of the traditional gatekeepers. From these reflections, the book proposes strategies so that news and social networks improve the quality of democratic life.
